Getting around Anguilla is safe and easy.

Traveler Update: Anguilla re-opened its borders to international travelers in November and has introduced new health and safety protocols. Learn more>

Taxis

Taxis are available on Anguilla, but are best for short trips as fares can be expensive and extra charges for after 6 pm, additional people and baggage can add up. Taxis are required to be registered and the rates are set so you can confirm your fare in advance with the dispatcher.

Because of the high cost, visitors often find it more affordable and convenient to rent a car.

Car Rental

Once you have received your negative arrival test confirmation, you can roam Anguilla freely and rent a car. Our concierge can arrange for you. Cars, SUVs and jeeps can be rented at the airport or ferry terminal. Rates are by day or week and vary depending no the season and type of vehicle.  You must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license from your company of origin to drive in Anguilla.  In addition, you will need to purchase a temporary Anguilla driver’s license for US $20 which the rental company will process for you.

Drivers in Anguilla drive on the left hand side of the road.  The speed limit is 30 miles per hour, and falls to 20 miles per hour around schools and villages.  Extra care should be taken driving at night as there are many cyclists, limited streetlights, and pedestrians walk on the side of the road.

Some rental car companies may require that you have had a driver’s license for at least two years and be at least 23 or in some cases 26 to rent a car.  Children under four are required to be in a child restraint seat.

On Demand Driver

Don’t want to worry about calling for taxis?  Our concierge can arrange an on-demand car and driver for you.  For an agreed upon fixed price per day or by the hour, he will be on call to drop and pick you up as you go about the island.  A smart option when heading out at night for drinks and music.

Cycling

A bike is a wonderful way to see this small gem of an island, whether you are in the mood for a leisurely ride or crave a more extreme experience.  The speed limit for cars is only 30 miles per hour, making the roads very bike friendly.  And for the adrenaline seekers, Anguilla’s natural lime roads make for some fast conditions.  Or head off-road and discover hidden areas of the island that most other visitors miss.  Our concierge can arrange for bike rentals including children’s bikes and child seats.  See Things to do on Anguilla>

Boat Rental

The best way to get to know Anguilla is to explore its many small islands and cays by boat.  Try your hand at fishing or just watch the local fisherman at work. Gaze at blue skies and azure waters as birds swoop down in secluded cays off Little Bay and Shoal Bay.  Or, spend a few hours basking in the sun on the sugar white sand of a small offshore beach such as Prickly Pear or scuba dive near Dog Island.

Day Trips

Day and overnight trips to surrounding islands such as St. Maarten and St. Barth’s may be available (subject to travel protocols, please confirm with us before finalizing your plans) and our concierge can coordinate all the logistics for you.  See Things to do on Anguilla>
